80 Years of Newcastle Airport

2015 marks 80 Years of Newcastle Airport which is a marvellous occasion for the North East largest airport. There are a number of very exciting plans in store for the airport including new routes, major investment and increased passenger numbers. Since its humble beginnings the airport has grown in to one of the busiest in n the UK. The 2015 plans will help cement the airports place in the as the best large airport as voted for by Which in both 2013 and 2015.

Investment

In 2013 the airport started a £14m investment in passenger serviced with the creation of a new departure lounge. The departure lounge is due to be completed in summer 2015 which will mark a whole new time for the airport. A host of new eateries and shops have been added including;

  • Aspire Lounge
  • Cabin Bar
  • Travelex Traveller
  • WH Smiths
  • Cuba Lily

Most of the above food and retail outlets are already open and can be enjoyed by passengers passing through the terminal. Local businesses are represented with the Cabin bar serving local food and drink from places such as Northumberland Cheese Company and the Tyne Bank Brewery. Bar 11 is another new addition that is scheduled to be open in March 2015.

As part of the terminal improvements, a larger Boots and Duty Free store have been added. The for mentioned improvements can all but help Newcastle Airport carry on its reputation as one of the UK’s top airports for business and recreational travellers.
